Compare your tax burden
Enter a few details and see a non-binding tax estimate for every municipality in the covered cantons, computed with the same engine TaxWize uses for a real declaration.
How does the tax comparison work?
The tax comparison runs on the same calculation engine TaxWize uses to prepare real tax declarations. For the selected municipality it computes direct federal tax, cantonal tax and municipal tax from the official tariffs and multipliers of tax year 2025; church tax is added for church members.
The estimate assumes an employed household with the statutory flat-rate and social deductions. Individual deductions such as commuting costs, pillar 3a, childcare or property maintenance are deliberately not included; the result is a non-binding orientation and replaces neither the official assessment nor professional tax advice.
Fully covered today are the cantons of Aargau, Zurich, Lucerne, Solothurn, Bern, Zug and Schwyz with all of their municipalities. For these cantons TaxWize also prepares the complete tax declaration: upload documents, have the values extracted automatically, check deductions (CHF 39 per declaration per tax year).
Lowest and highest tax multipliers 2025
The total multiplier (cantonal plus municipal Steuerfuss, excluding church tax) determines how strongly the simple cantonal tax is multiplied. The spread within a canton is considerable:
Multipliers are comparable within a canton. Between cantons, the assessment bases differ; the shared axis is for orientation only.

Frequently asked questions about the tax comparison
- Is the estimate binding?
- No. The tax comparison provides a non-binding orientation based on the official tariffs and multipliers. Only the assessment of the competent tax authority is decisive.
- Which inputs go into the estimate?
- Canton, municipality, gross income (both incomes for married couples), marital status, number of children and church membership. From these the engine computes federal, cantonal, municipal and, where applicable, church tax with the statutory flat rates.
- Why do taxes differ between municipalities?
- Each municipality sets its own tax multiplier, which scales the simple cantonal tax. At the same income, the annual tax burden can therefore differ by several thousand francs depending on where you live; moving within the canton changes the calculation accordingly.
- What is the difference between the tax comparison and TaxWize?
- The tax comparison is a free tool for a quick estimate. TaxWize itself is the intelligent preparation layer for the tax declaration: upload documents, have the values extracted automatically, check deductions and receive a structured overview for transferring into the cantonal portal. Available for the cantons of Aargau, Zurich, Lucerne, Solothurn, Bern, Zug and Schwyz at CHF 39 per declaration per tax year.
